The Active Recovery Advantage
What is the Parkinson’s PWR! Program?
The Parkinson Wellness Recovery (PWR!) program is a cutting-edge, research-based exercise framework specifically designed to slow the progression of Parkinson’s disease symptoms. Unlike general exercise, PWR! focuses on neuroplasticity-principled training—high-effort, large-amplitude movements that target the core physical motor symptoms of Parkinson’s: rigidity, bradykinesia (slowness of movement), tremors, and postural instability.
At Neubility, the program is led by Dr. Han Nguyen, a Board-Certified Neurologic Clinical Specialist. We don’t just “work out”; we use specific “PWR!Moves” that serve as a foundation for all daily activities. These moves help “re-tune” the brain’s connection to the muscles, allowing for smoother, more forceful, and more intentional movement.
For example: Robert, a retired teacher, noticed that his steps were becoming smaller and he often felt “frozen” when trying to walk through doorways. His handwriting had become tiny and illegible. Through the PWR! program, Robert learned to replace those small, cramped movements with “Big” movements. By practicing the PWR! Up (to improve posture) and PWR! Twist (to reduce trunk rigidity), he regained the ability to take large, confident strides. Within weeks, Robert was back to walking his dog around the neighborhood, using his “PWR! Walks” to overcome freezing episodes and maintain his independence.
Who Can Benefit?
This program is specifically tailored for individuals diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease or other Parkinsonian syndromes.
-
Newly Diagnosed: To establish a “neuro-protective” exercise habit early to slow disease progression.
-
Mid-to-Late Stage: To manage balance, reduce fall risks, and maintain the ability to perform self-care.
-
Young-Onset Parkinson’s: Individuals aged 18–65 looking to maintain high-level athletic or workplace function.
-
Caregivers: We provide education on how to assist with movements safely at home.
How Can the PWR! Program Help?
ENHANCED MOBILITY & BALANCE
By training large-amplitude movements, we improve your walking patterns and significantly reduce “freezing” episodes, making community navigation safer and easier.
REDUCED RIGIDITY & STIFFNESS
Targeted “PWR! Twist” and “PWR! Rock” movements help break up trunk stiffness, making it easier to get out of bed, reach for items, or turn your head while driving.
FALL PREVENTION & CORE STABILITY
We focus on posture control and weight-shifting reactions to build a “stable base,” drastically reducing the risk of falls—the leading cause of injury in the Parkinson’s community.
COGNITIVE & MOTOR CHALLENGES
Parkinson’s affects the ability to “multi-task.” Our sessions incorporate dual-task training—like performing a movement while counting or solving a word puzzle—to prepare your brain for real-world distractions.
VOCAL STRENGTH & CLARITY
The same “effort” principles used for your legs are applied to your voice. We help you maintain vocal volume and clarity through intentional, high-effort communication exercises.
GREATER INDEPENDENCE
By mastering the foundational PWR! Moves, you gain the confidence to continue social engagements, hobbies, and daily tasks without feeling controlled by your symptoms.
