Wheelchair & Adaptive Technology Evaluation and Assessment

Empowering Independence Through the Right Mobility

At Neubility Rehabilitation and Wellness, we understand that the right wheelchair or adaptive equipment can completely transform independence, safety, and participation in daily life. Our goal is to help every individual achieve optimal mobility, comfort, and function.

As the only neuro-specialized PT/OT clinic in the area, we bring advanced expertise in neurological rehabilitation, biomechanics, and assistive technology to ensure that your mobility system is not just fitted, but custom-tailored to your goals, body, and lifestyle.

Who we serve

Our SCI program is designed for individuals with traumatic or non-traumatic injuries to the spinal cord (cervical, thoracic, lumbar) who are seeking movement restoration, functional improvement, independence in daily activities, and community reintegration. We welcome clients with incomplete injuries (AIS B, C, D) as well as those further along in their recovery journey.

Our Evaluation Process

  1. Initial Consultation & Functional Assessment We start with a detailed review of your diagnosis, functional goals, posture, range of motion, and pressure relief needs. We’ll discuss your daily routines, transportation setup, and the environments you navigate most often.

  2. Equipment Trial & Comparative Fitting We work closely with local ATP (Assistive Technology Professional) suppliers to trial a variety of wheelchairs and adaptive technologies. This ensures you experience firsthand how different models feel and perform before making a decision.

  3. Postural and Pressure Mapping Advanced postural and pressure mapping tools help us identify areas of potential skin breakdown or asymmetry, ensuring the best fit for both comfort and long-term health.

  4. Prescription & Documentation Once the best configuration is determined, our therapists complete the detailed LMN (Letter of Medical Necessity) and coordinate with your physician and DME supplier to streamline the insurance process. Each assessment at Neubility is comprehensive, patient-centered, and evidence-based.

  5. Delivery, Fitting, & Training Upon delivery, we ensure that the final wheelchair setup matches your measured specifications. Our therapists then provide training on safe transfers, mobility skills, pressure relief, and maintenance to help you maximize independence.

Types of Equipment We Evaluate

  • Manual wheelchairs – ultralightweight, tilt-in-space, folding, and rigid frame
  • Power wheelchairs – mid, front, and rear-wheel drive configurations
  • Seating & positioning systems – cushions, backrests, lateral supports

Why Specialized Evaluation Matters

Wheelchair selection is not one-size-fits-all. A poor fit can lead to:

  • Skin breakdown and pressure injuries
  • Postural deformities or pain
  • Reduced independence and fatigue
  • Increased caregiver burden

At Neubility, our neuro-specialized clinicians combine clinical expertise and compassion to ensure your equipment supports your long-term health and functional goals.
